Courses and workshops at Lead and Light

with Lynette Wrigley

We offer a range of introductory courses that are practical and designed to get you started if you are a beginner as well as offering those who are already familiar with working in glass an opportunity to build on their skills and try new techniques.

Classes are limited to small groups (up to six students) so attention is ensured. You will be taught through demonstration, group and individual instruction and hands on experience. Working with an experienced artist and tutor, you can expect by the end of each workshop, to have completed a small panel, or decorative sample of glass, depending on your interest.

FIVE DAY SUMMER COURSE

An opportunity to explore a variety of processes or to focus on a specific area of creativity or work on a personal project. The course content will be flexible and aimed at the individual requirements of each participant.You may work on a leaded or copper panel or develop your skills with fused glass. FUSING

A fascinating technique of assembling or layering pieces of glass and fusing them together in the kiln.The course will cover technical and creative issues such as glass compatibility and kiln preparation,as well as effects that can be achieved with the inclusion of materials such as metals and enamels. Be inspired to create individual art works as well as jewellery, coasters and more.This is a popular course so early booking is recommended.

PAINTING WORKSHOP

Painting on glass enables you to create figurative or abstract forms as well as intriguing textures; adding depth, tonal dimensions and decoration to glass. Simple techniques will be taught to unlock your potential and use this traditional method creatively. Painted pieces will be fired in the kiln during the course. Suitable for beginners and those already working with glass who wish to expand their techniques.

LEAD WORK

A traditional method of assembling glass into a lead light or stained glass window. You will be given help on how to develop a design, using your own ideas or those offered by the tutor and how to adapt this into a working pattern (cartoon).You will then be given instruction on how to cut and lead the glass into a small completed panel.

COPPER FOIL

Copper foil is a versatile method of assembling glass, useful for designs with intricate shapes, three-dimensional work, jewellery, sculptures, wall hangings and window panels. Learn how to cut glass, copper foil and solder a small project. Perfect for total beginners but also those who would like to develop their glass cutting and soldering skills.

EVENING WORKSHOP

For those living within the London area there is also an opportunity to attend a workshop between 5.30 pm and 9.00 pm every Wednesday. The workshops are ongoing where students of varied abilities can work on different techniques. You may attend as many classes as you wish, though if you are a beginner, we recommend that you attend a minimum of four evenings.

All weekend courses require a deposit of £50.00. The balance of the payment will be due on the first day of the course. We reserve the right to cancel any course (due to unforeseen circumstances) and refund your deposit in full or offer an alternative date. Failure to cancel less than 7 days before the course will mean your deposit is not refundable.

Tools, solder, lead, paint and off-cuts of glass are all included in the course fee. Students may purchase additional glass from the studio's retail outlet.

Courses start at 10.00am and finish at 5.00pm.

Please note: parking in the studio drive Is only available to students on the Sunday of any weekend course.
